South East Asia
Three leaders trained by EQUIP in SouthEast Asia have taken the leadership training to their stream of influence, education. One of the 36 students and staff from within a South Asia university said, “This training, builds me from inside out. It teaches how we can develop ourselves, so that we can reach the wider community. We can become a better person for ourselves and for society.”
Cambodia is in a unique season of time, according to Jesse McCaul, EQUIP’s National Training Partner in Cambodia and the leader of New Life Church. McCaul says there is government freedom and an openness to the gospel, that makes evangelism the easier part, but discipleship more difficult.
As Cambodian leaders are looking to pour into new believers and provide discipleship, they are leveraging EQUIP materials across the ministry. The church mentors 60 churches in rural areas of the nation, offers language courses as a local outreach and offers transitional housing for homeless children with a 10 month development program.
Through these outreach programs and more, New Life Church is pouring EQUIP’s leadership development resources into local churches, organizations and the Cambodian people.
Pastor David Bie leads Grace Christian Church, a small church in a remote portion of a country which is largely Buddhist with influences of Hinduism and Islam. Myanmar is considered, by most world missions experts, to be one of the nations with a government most hostile to the gospel. Christians are often persecuted there. Regardless, Pastor Bie has watched God move in his community. One by one, men and women are coming to Christ and being baptized. In this remote area, he baptizes new believers in a rain barrel outside the church. Grace Christian Church is transforming its world for Christ.
Meanwhile, Pastor Bie, in his commitment to multiply his leadership influence, has birthed the Grace Leadership Centre. This is a one year course for young Burmese leaders. Pastor Bie is leading this group of students through the EQUIP materials he is learning at the training conferences in the Philippines! EQUIP, through Pastor Bie, is multiplying leaders in the next generation in remote parts of Myanmar.
