::The #1 Skill Christian Leaders Need:: by Tom Atema

On a recent international trip I was asked in one of the Q and A sessions, “Tom, what would you consider to be the number one skill a Christian leader needs today?”

Interesting question and my answer might just surprise you.

Without a doubt, today’s Christian leader has to be a person of strong character. Colin Powell said, “Leaders need two things – character and strategy. If you can do only one, drop strategy.” A person with character is a person who has integrity, as well as an ethical foundation, a person filled with humility, and a person who has pure motives. Scripture puts it this way, “…a person with clean hands and a pure heart.” As vital as character is, it might be very close to number one; but it is not number one in my mind.

Skill formation, you might think, is number one. Yes, it is vital for the leader to develop practical skills. We must have the skills to develop people, communicate, build teams and solve problems. They are all vital to a leader’s “success” (check out Psalms 78:70-72); however, building your skills is not number one either.

Strategic formation, the “know-how” to be an effective... read more.

::My Experience as an EQUIP Intern:: by Lakesha Gadson

Who will fulfill the Great Commission? Who will confront global human needs? Who will change the world? These are three questions EQUIP uses to address the broad Christian public around the world. They are also questions that have challenged me during my internship with EQUIP.

I am truly blessed to have had this opportunity serve EQUIP during these six months. God has given me a new perspective on what He is doing in this world and the call He has placed on my life. The passion for global leadership development expressed by the staff and the team around the world has increased my enthusiasm for this cause. For me, I know the process in getting here was arranged only by God.

2009 Interns for EQUIP

In 2007, God called me to return to graduate school after just recently obtaining a master’s degree. However, this time my direction was different. He placed Regent University on my heart and told me that this was the next step in my preparation as a leader. I had no idea what was in store for me, but I planned on spending 7 years with the university. Three years would be dedicated to obtaining a Masters in Divinity and four years in pursuit of a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership.
I heard about EQUIP in 2008, only two months after being at Regent. When I went to the website and caught a glimpse of what EQUIP was doing globally, I was hooked…this was it! This past spring... read more.

John Hull, President/CEO, EQUIPAt EQUIP’s recent Leadership Summit in Pebble Beach, California, our founder, John Maxwell, introduced “THINK WIDE! GO DEEP!” as the ministry’s new two-fold global initiative for the next five years! The new initiative is being built in the wake of the success we experienced with the Million Leaders Mandate which was launched in 2003.

Here’s some background to the THINK WIDE! GO DEEP! initiative:

THINK WIDE! - The United Nations claims just over 200 member nations. Presently, EQUIP is providing leadership training in 127 of these nations. EQUIP’s commitment is to take our field-tested and proven leadership development strategies into every nation on the earth by 2015 through conferences, partnerships and technology.

In short, when you and I think of EQUIP over the next five years, we need to THINK WIDE – to think about the all nations (including the 75 to go) where we need to come alongside and train, resource and encourage Christian leaders. In reality, we believe this is a very do-able objective given the large number of partners we have across the world. Of these 75 remaining nations... read more.

The need for a generation of Christian leaders in Nepal has never been greater. Known as the home of Mount Everest, Nepal’s physical beauty is breathtaking, but the spiritual darkness is overwhelming. Winning Nepal for Christ is the vision of Stephen and Karen Negus. As partners with EQUIP, they are bringing the Million Leaders Mandate (MLM) leadership training to the Nepalese in both Hong Kong and Nepal.

This fall, Stephen and Karen will be returning to Nepal for the second conference in the Volume 1 curriculum. Already, they are set to speak to a full-capacity of 500 hungry Nepalese Christian leaders. Stephen and Karen’s journey to the leaders in Nepal has been a testament to the hand of God moving in mighty ways.

Stephen and Karen first felt called to missionary work in Hong Kong in 1988. It wasn’t until 2003...read more.

The founder of EQUIP, John Maxwell, recently spoke to a group of about 125 friends of this ministry at a special event in California. John’s theme was “Think Wide! Go Deep!” His challenge was simple, but powerful. We must “think wide” as we take Biblical leadership training to every nation. We must “go deep” as we raise up a vanguard of top-level leaders who will become strategic agents of change in their nations.

Dr. Maxwell announced the establishment of the “75 Fund”. Dollars designated for this fund will help keep EQUIP strong in 127 nations where we now serve and help us take Biblical leadership training and resources to the remaining 75 nations as soon as possible.

In order to “go deep” with key leaders around the world, Dr. Maxwell stated that it is the goal of EQUIP to offer global leadership academies, region by region, where in-depth, advanced leadership training will be provided for international leaders with highest potential to impact their countries and cultures for Christ.

Because of the devoted, effective service of our Associate Trainers and ministry partners, hundreds of key leaders around the world are already... read more.

More and more Canadians are catching a vision for EQUIP! This past year John Hull along with Lorie Hartshorn, Director of Advancement for The EQUIP Foundation Canada shared the EQUIP story at two dinner evenings and hosted three EQUIP training days in the Toronto area. With the partnership of Richmond Hill Christian Community Church and Rhema Christian Ministries, more than 500 leaders from churches and the business community experienced a day of EQUIP training. There is a new excitement to be involved with EQUIP’s mandate to train leaders worldwide. We welcome 8 new Associate Trainers to our team as well as 4 new Partnerships!

Canadians are connecting with the strategic mission of EQUIP to “Fulfill the Great Commission in every nation, through effective Christian leaders.” This past year has seen a significant increase in donations to EQUIP from Canadians. Canadians can donate online at www.CanadaHelps.org

It was a privilege to have John Maxwell come to Edmonton in September! We enjoyed some great Canadian hospitality in Ron & Shelby... read more.
