Hello from our EQUIP office in Johns Creek, Georgia!
If you have never heard of Johns Creek, I can certainly understand why. Johns Creek is the newest city in Georgia. In fact, many proclaim it as the newest city in America! The city of Johns Creek was launched last year and almost overnight, became the sixth most populated city in the state! The city is quite the story and you can learn more about it by visiting www.johnscreekga.gov.
Not long after Johns Creek was chartered and a mayor and city council elected, a place was needed to house city government. It was just about a year ago that EQUIP, INJOY Stewardship Services and a just few other small businesses were the sole and rather lonely occupants of this large four-story building where I sit to write this. However, about ten months ago, the City of Johns Creek took possession of the third and fourth floors. The City Hall was birthed - and ever since, just about every square foot of this facility, from parking lots to hallways, has become beehives of activity! Every day people are going in and out of this building doing business with the city - and with other occupant businesses and ministries like EQUIP and ISS.
What is going on around the office in Johns Creek every day, is representative of what is going on with EQUIP all over the world. EQUIP has become a beehive of purposeful activity with Christian leaders in over 100 nations coming in and out of conferences, in and out of notebooks, and in out of training, almost all the time - all involved in the ministry and business of leadership development.
Recently, John Maxwell and EQUIP Vice-President, Tom Atema, were in Latin America to launch new countries with EQUIP training in addition to the countries where EQUIP is already engaged. The response was breathtaking. The people were hungry for leadership materials and training. You can read more about it in the feature story of this newsletter.
What John and Tom saw in Latin America is being repeated all over the world. Name the region of the world and you'll find EQUIP training, trainers and materials. Mention every economic class of people across the globe and you'll eventually find EQUIP right there training and encouraging. Find just about any troubled spot where either tyranny or terrorism prevails and behind those horrid stages will be a quiet, yet growing number of Christian leaders who are using EQUIP materials and making a difference.
I don't want to confuse activity for accomplishment. Clearly a bug on his back with legs working feverishly isn't our idea of a mascot. The bug has lots of activity but isn't going anywhere! That's not my point of reference at all. However, what I do know is that there is a tangible and measureable amount of meaningful activity taking place around the world where EQUIP is focused. People are busy - but busy doing something significant. They are training, encouraging and resourcing Christian leaders for the purpose of fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.
We're getting busier at EQUIP - and we thank God for it. While EQUIP is not a city hall, I do think God has allowed us to become a citadel of hope, training and resources for Christian leaders around the world who want help and are blessed to know that help is on the way.
